About
Mecca Masjid: Makkah Masjid
(Mecca Masjid) is one of the oldest mosques of Hyderabad and one of the biggest
in India. This mosque was constructed during Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah's rule,
the fifth ruler of Qutb Shahi dynasty in Golconda which is currently called as
Hyderabad.
The Mecca Masjid was construct using Islamic
architecture, and has the reputation of being the oldest mosque in Hyderabad.
The Masjid is situated in between the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
It is near to the Charminar and Laad Bazar.
The Sultan had bricks and soil used in the
Mecca who individuals bricks the construction of the central arch of this mosque,
hence the name known as Mecca Masjid. It is said that the three arched facades have been
fixed from a monolith granite block which took five years for quarrying and
more than 8000 workers were employed for construction work.
The base stone was laid by Muhammad Quli Qutb
Shah himself and the construction was further carried over by Aurangzeb, the
Mughal Emperor who conquered Hyderabad afterwards and later completed the
mosque in 1694.
The
central hall of the mosque is 220' wide and 180' long and 75' high. It has
enough floor area to large enough to accommodate 10,000 people worshipers in
just one go. The main established of the mosque is among two massive pieces of
