About Sringeri: Sringeri, is a hill town and situated in Chikkamagaluru , Karnataka South India. It is the place of the first maṭha (Sringeri Sharada Peeta) recognized by Adi Shankara, Hindu curate and proponent of the Advaita Vedanta philosophy, in the 8th century CE It is situated on the banks of the river Tunga and also a past Temple (1200 years).

The name Sringeri is extract from Rishyashringa giri, a close by hill that is believed to have restricted the hermitage of Rishi Vibhandaka and his son Rishyashringa.
