According to the history there are three brothers living. three types of diseases , one of them blind, another deaf and last person dumb. The small land where they spend long periods of cultivation. For that they used to get water from a well using Piccota system. One day the well got dried up. So they started to dig it. While doing, one had hit a stone like formation. He was shocked to see blood oozing out from it. Within few seconds, the entire water turned into red colour.
But, startled by this divine sight, all the three became normal getting rid of their abnormality. When villagers came to know about this miracle, they dig deep and found a swayambhu statue of Lord Vinayaka emerged from the swirling water. Ultimately they offered many number of coconuts with all prayers- modesty kneeling before the new idol. The indication of this led to the modification in the usage of the Tamil word "Kaniparakam" and later pronounced as Kanipakam.Un till now, the idol is in the real well and the lead of the well are everlasting. Still the rainy season, the holy water from the well overflows even today. But their attempt proved futile because the 'swayambhu' idol (the self-manifested) of Lord Vinayaka emerged from the swirling waters.

Infinitely they offered many number of coconuts with all prayers- modestly kneeling before the new statue, offered POOJAA and "MANGALARATHI" etc. They fixed the statue as "SWAYAMBHUHU" and complete a number of coconuts. The coconuts water flowed into a way to a distance of more than one and a quarter acres. The mark of this led to the changes in the usage of the word "KANIPARAKAM" and next called as KANIPAKAM. Still today the statue is in the real well and the jump of the never ending. At any season! Until rainy season, the holy water from the well overflows even today.

The  Bahuda River Story:

Long ago there lived two brothers Sankha and Likhita. They were on a excursion  to Kanipakam. After journey they are very tried, the younger brother Likhita felt hungry. Reject the help of the elder brother he plucked a mango from the mango grove. Sankha felt bad and reported this to the ruler of that area and catches for punishment for the wrong committed during the pilgrimage. Thus Likhita was punished very badle being back of two arms.

Next they took bath in the river near Kanipakam temple. The two arms were restored to Likhita as soon as he had a dip in the blessed waters of the river. These mark lead the ruler to rename the river as 'Bahuda' (Bahu means human arm). Thus the river beside Kanipakam temple is now known as 'Bahuda River'.
