About Srikurmam: Srikurmam is a well-known
temple located at Srikakula and 18 kms distance from Srikakulam town. The village Srikurmam derives
its name from the temple, which is devoted to Lord Vishnu in the avathara of
Sri Kurma. The tortoise avathara was seen in the temples and hence the deity is
called Srikurmanatha. The temple is of very enormous holiness, individually the
only important temple to Lord Vishnu in the Kurmavathara in the whole of India.
Srikurmam is one of the
ancient and famous temples in India. The main holy and ancient shrine of
sri kurmam, located on the coast of bay of Bengal, here is the only swayambhu
temple in the world where lord vishnu is worshipped in the form of Kurma
avataara (tortoise – the second manifestation of the famous dasa avataaraas).This ancient shrine is believed to be former
to the golden era of Sri Raama (RaamaRraajyam). About this shrine are accessible
in Kurma , Vishnu,Aagni , Padma, Brahmaanda puraanaas. Whereas the
shrine is said to be more than a few million years old, outer structures were
reconstructed of previous years , and the latest temple structure of outer
walls is more than 800 years old.
In past history concerned, the
area of Srikurmam was ruled by many dynasties and like Cholas Kalingaganga
rajas, Orissa Vikrama Ggajapatulu, Vijayanagaram kings Anandagajapatulu and many
more dynasty are developed the temples .Kurma temple was built earlier than 2nd
century. In the Cholas dynasty temple was improvement. After that the history
of Kalinga seema, it is particular that after the rule of Cholas, Kalinga Ganga
dynasty plain this area. From the 7th century, this temple was known.
It is precise
that the temple have been improve in different levels under the rule of
Gangaraja.In this temple around the
pillars and Silasashanas are situated. In 12th century Gangaraja
dynasty Anangabheema was built floor and
top and architecture of the temple and
its pillars are called Gandarva silpa sampada and he Kalinga and Andhra
dynasties developed the temple.

Kshetram and Sri Padmanaba Kshetram are the two famous Vaishnava sthalas
situated in Walter – Srikurmam bus route.

station near to 13 kms from Srikurmam. But
