About Simhachalam:  Simhachalam temple is situated near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, India.It is dedicated to the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swami. The great history of the factual devotee Prahlada Maharaja and his devilish father, Hiranyakashyapa. Following a lot of ineffective attempts to kill Sri Prahlada, Hiranyakashipu instructions, as a last resort, to throw Sri Prahlada into the ocean and put a vast mountain over him.
 However earlier than they could terminate, Narayana relase Prahlada by jumping in excess of the hill and stimulating him from the sea. Simhachalam, therefore, is the place where the Lord release Prahlada. It is also said that since the Lord jumped at once to release Prahlada, the Lord’s lotus feet went into Patala. The local Sthala Purana says that the Darshana of Lord’s lotus feet is available only to population of Patala Loka.




Later than the death of Hiranyakashipu, Prahlada have established a temple in the region of the idol. It is believed that after Prahlada given over the empire to his son, he worshipped the deity individually. Still at the end of Satya Yuga, remaining to abandon possibly, a massive anthill gathered around the Deity. After the opening of other Yuga the Deity was rebuilt bythe king of the lunar dynasty Pururava,who is introduced in the Ninth Canto of the Srimad- Bhagavatam

Simha means Lion and Adri or Achala means Hill. Simha + Achala= simhachala Simha+Adri= Simhadri (Lion Hills)  called as  Hill of the Lion Lord. Simhachalam is one of the eighteen "Naarasimha Kshetras". The most important god contained by the temple sanctorum gives "Nijaroopa Darshan" (holy manifestation in true form) for only 12 hours in a year on Akshaya Tritiya day, in the remaining of period the god is enclosed with Sandalwood paste. The darshan represent as 'Chandana yatra' or 'Chandanotsavam' falls all year in Vaisakha masa (May).

The Simhachalam  best period of visiting to the occasion of ‘Chandanotsavam’ in the months of March – April, as it is only during this time that the devotees can get a glance of the idol and during in winter season Oct to Mar the Visakhapatnam totally city has pleasant climate conditions.Ideally, one can visit the temple and Visakhapatnam during the winter months of October to March, as the city has pleasant climatic conditions.
Timing: Simhachalam Temples opening Dharshan timings  from 7:00 am – 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.



How to reach in Simhachalam:

By Bus: The Simhachalam temple is just 18 K M away from Visakapattanam. There are many regular buses operated between Vizag to Simhachalam and the main bus stand is at Vishakhapatnam. APSRTC operates buses like, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Tirupati . There is bus facility from the foot of the hill to the temple for every 10 to 15-minutes.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Vishakhapatnamv from 20 kms. From well connected to Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
By Air : The nearest airport is at Vishakhapatnam, which is well connected with flights from main cities.
