About Sammakka Saralamma: Sammakka Sarakka is enormous celebration of Telangana public that identically the fight of Sammakka and Saralamma (a mother and daughter) with the influential rulers alongside an unfair law.This is festival is southern Kumbhamela lakhs of devotees are come from all over Telagana and surrounding states like Andra Padesh,Maharastra, and Orissa. Kannepoyinapalle village which is around 90 km from Warangal in Telangana .It is a major festival/Jatara following kumbhamela that come from millions of people all over the country.

The Sammakka Saralamma numerous legends says that and following  to a tribal tale, as regards 6-7 centuries before, that is in the 13th century, tribal influential who went for a hunting find out the  novel born girl (Sammakka) emitting huge light in presentation amidst tigers. She was taken to their environment. The leader of the tribe adopted and she later on became the savior of the tribal’s of the area she was married to pagididda Raju a householder tribal ruler of Kakatiyas dynasty. She was delivering with three children’s namely Sarakka, Nagulamma and Jampanna(son) correspondingly.

Later than, there was a harsh drought that lasted for years and as a result the great Godavari River dried out up. The first emperor was invaded by the Polavalasa . In turn emperor Pratapa Rudra sent his army to control the tribal and collect the tribute. Medaram Medaraju he fled in the face of attack go to hillock. The Medaram ruler Pagoddida Raju were not pay the tribute for the Kakatiya emporer who have been famine conditions a factor of Kakatiya kings. The Prataparudrudu and prime minister Yugandar are fight for the  Meddaram Raju full moon day of Magha.
The Medaram Jatara starts on the full moon day also identified as suddha poornima day of the Magha masam.  January-February months that agree with Magha month of Hindu lunar calendar.


The war was fight among the tribal leader pagididda Raju and Kakatiya army on the banks of "Sampenga Vagu" (Jampanna Vagu). The Koya army battle bravely but cannot with set the well prepared Kakatiya army. Though battle bravely pagididda Raju, his daughters Sarakka, Nagulamma, son in law Govinda Raju lost (companion of Sarakka) lives in the fight and afterward Jampanna also suicide in Sampenga Vagu  after name derives  as Jampanna Vagu in the recollection of his daring fight alongside fine qualified Kakatiya army.The major contributions for the period of the Jatara by devotees contain coconuts and jaggery  and sugar the same to their weight  jaggery  . Animals sacrifice and worship of cane are part of the Jatara. A huge number of public dance to the drumming as if obsessed by the deity. A few devotees shear their head in respect to the goddess. Some offer cooked food like prasadam and devotees also take bath in the Jampanna vagu here as it is whispered that the water body has curative properties.

 The Medaram Jatara or Sammkka-Saralakka jatara that entire large number of tribals, non tribals to get gather at one place. This just celebration is held once in two years (bi-annually) with more than eighty  lakhs people taking part.
 In 1998, the only way to arrive at Medaram Jatara  was by a bullock cart. In 1998 the state government affirmed old festival as official and laid down constructed  road.

By Road: TSRTC runs buses frequently from Warangal to Kannepoyinapalle.
By Train: The nearest raily way station is Warangal.
By Air: The nearest Air port is Shamsabad from 147 km.
